Illustration process tutorial

In February I did a talk at the monthly Illustrators Australia Sydney meeting. It was called "Process Diary", and Christopher Nielsen and myself chatted about the steps we took to make an illustration. I chose this promotional Christmas image that I produced through The Drawing Book for a printing company; mainly due to the fact that I kept many working layers in the original file. These days I tend to flatten layers as I go, so unless I record all the steps, the process isn't seen. This is true to an extent with this image, but I think it gives a pretty good overview about how I make a digital illustration.

In Part One I introduce myself and present examples of my work, explaining briefly what they were for.

In Part Two I get into the nitty-gritty of my workflow and process in producing an illustration; from sketch to final colour.

Please keep in mind that I am constantly evolving my workflow and techniques. What I have shown here may differ from what I do in the future. I think it's important to keep learning and exploring different ways of doing things, and I hope that these videos will be of interest to fellow artists. I am aiming do more in-depth online explanations of my techniques in the future. Please feel free to let me know what you think, and what you would like to learn about in future tutorials.

Many thanks to Illustrators Australia for inviting me to do the talk, and to Lew Keilar for doing a great job shooting and editing the video.
