Usagi Yojimbo Tribute
As I'm sure most of you in the comic world know Stan and Sharon Sakai have been struggling under the weight of medical bills, and the art world has rallied around them to raise funds. Stan is the creator of the great comic Usagi Yojimbo, and a great guy, too. A few of us at the ACA had the pleasure of an evening with Sharon and Stan a few years back, where he regaled us with tales of comic folklore and drew us all sketches. (That's me in the checked shirt playing footsies with Stan under the table.)
So when I was approached to contribute to the Sakai Project, I was only too happy to help.
Basically, the idea is that artists to draw Sakai's creations in their own style. There have been many famous names that have donated their time and art, such as Stan's great friend Sergio Aragones, Craig Thompson, Doug Tenapel, Kevin Eastman, Tom Richmond, and even the mighty Jack Davis! Plus a HEAP more. Here's my humble brush and ink wash sketch of the famous rabbit ronin...
The original will be on sale at the ebay auction some time over the next few months. Head over to see some great art by comic book heavyweights, with all proceeds from the book and auction will be going directly to Stan and Sharon to pay medical bills and get their life on track.
